Privacy
Effective October 5, 2026
The short version
- When you add a memory, your voice is recorded so Story Den can write your card.
- Boards are private to people with the link. They aren't listed or searchable.
- AI providers process recordings only to do their job, and aren't allowed to keep them or train on them.
- We use Meta's Pixel only to measure Story Den ads (page views and purchases). We never sell personal information.
- We only send marketing email if you tick the box asking for it.
This policy covers storyden.io and Story Den boards. Story Den is made by Ploski Studio in Canada ("we", "us"). Questions: contact@storyden.io.
What we collect
If you start a board
- Who the board is for and the occasion, your name as people know you, and any note you give Athena about the recipient.
- Your email address, which Stripe passes to us when you pay. We use it to send your board's private link and anything about your board or payment.
- A record of the payment (amount, plan, date). Stripe handles your card; we never see card details.
If you add a memory
- Your name and, if you give it, how you know the recipient.
- Recordings of your answers to Athena, and what you said, written down. We use these to write your card and its picture.
- Your voice message for the recipient, if you leave one.
- Your email address, only if you ask us to email you a link to finish later.
If you're testing life-story interviews
Your username, and the same recordings and written stories as above for the interviews you run. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed), never as plain text.
If you open a board
Nothing that identifies you, unless you sign up for news in the board's footer. We note the first time a board is opened, so the organizer knows it arrived.
On your device
Your browser remembers the links to boards you started and memories you added, so you can get back to them. This stays in your browser and isn't sent to us. Testers who sign in get a cookie that keeps them signed in. If you arrived from a Story Den ad, Meta's Pixel may set cookies so we can tell whether an ad led to a purchase; see Meta below.
How we use it
- To run Story Den: hold the interview, write cards, make pictures, build and show the board, and send the emails you ask for.
- To improve Story Den, for example by testing a better way of writing cards on earlier interviews. This happens inside Story Den; we don't hand recordings to anyone to train their AI.
- To send occasional news, only if you ticked the box or signed up for it. Every news email lets you unsubscribe.
Who can see what
- The board: anyone with the board's link sees the cards, pictures, quotes and voice messages. The recipient can share it.
- The shared link: anyone with it can see the memories added so far, but not the voice messages or highlights, which are kept for the recipient.
- The organizer sees each card as it arrives and can leave cards off the board.
- Your interview recordings aren't played on the board. Only your voice message is.
Who else handles data
We use these service providers. Each handles data only to provide its part of Story Den:
- Cloudflare hosts storyden.io and stores boards and recordings. Its Workers AI service also turns speech into text, speaks Athena's voice and makes the pictures.
- OpenRouter passes what was said to AI models (currently from Google and Anthropic) to choose Athena's questions and write the cards. We tell OpenRouter to use only providers that don't keep or train on the data.
- Groq may write down speech as a backup when the main service is busy.
- Stripe takes payments.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Google Fonts serves the fonts, so Google sees your IP address when a page loads.
- Meta (Facebook) receives page views and conversion events (for example, that someone paid for a board) through the Meta Pixel on storyden.io, so we can run and measure Story Den ads. Meta may also receive your IP address and a browser identifier. We do not send your recordings, story text or board contents to Meta.
These providers may process data outside Canada, including in the United States. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep boards, recordings and what was said until you ask us to delete them, so boards stay online and cards can be rewritten. If you'd like your memory, recording or the whole board deleted, email us and we'll delete it within 30 days. We keep payment records for as long as tax law requires, which in Canada is six years.
Children
Story Den isn't meant for children under 13 on their own. A child can add a memory with a parent or guardian, who should do the setup and stay with them.
Your choices and rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by emailing contact@storyden.io. Tell us which board it's about, and the name or email you used. You can unsubscribe from news at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under laws such as Canada's PIPEDA or the EU's GDPR, and we'll honour them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll say so on storyden.io.
